James Zabiela - RA. Podcast 319

James Zabiela - RA. Podcast 319
"Beats, samples and melodies.
James Zabiela came up in an era in which a mixtape in the right hands could kick-start a DJ career. This is famously how he got his break when in 2000 he won the Bedroom Bedlam competition in UK magazine Muzik. The excessive care and attention poured into the mix is an approach that's never left him. Zabiela has mixed four compilations for UK specialists Renaissance down the years, each displaying surgeon-like precision in their application of samples, track selections and flair. Yes, we said flair: Zabiela's dizzying technical skills have been his most famous asset, applying a technologically enhanced hip-hop style to house and breakbeats. "D o w n l o a d

Benoit and Sergio - RA. Podcast 317

Benoit and Sergio - RA. Podcast 317
"Benoit & Sergio are an electronic house and pop duo from Washington DC who have a knack for crafting earworms. Who else in recent memory had you idly humming a song about an apathetic ketamine addict? Or wailing cat-like to a track concerning principles? "Walk and Talk" and "Principles" made it to number #18 and #12 respectively in our 2011 singles poll, proof (if it were needed) that the dance floor will always cherish a chance to sing-along. Eats Everything - RA Podcast 316

Eats Everything - RA Podcast 316
"Full fat house.
Eats Everything is part of a loose collective of artists that hold bass and fun in the highest regard when it comes to house music. Since coming to prominence a little over a year ago, Bristol-based Dan Pearce has worked closely with all of the group's key members—from Claude VonStroke and his San Francisco-based Dirtybird family, through to European exponents like Catz N Dogz and their Pets Recordings imprint. It was through the latter that Pearce first made his mark. "Entrance Song" fused dive-bomb subs with garage organs and a reverb-drenched break; Pete Tong in particular was a fan, almost immediately inviting Pearce to record an Essential Mix off the back of the record. Everyone has seemingly wanted a slice of Eats Eveything since. "D o w n l o a d

Developer - RA. Podcast 302
"LA techno at its finest".
"With the inception and subsequent rise of his Modularz imprint during 2011, you'll perhaps forgive us for thinking that Developer was a newly emergent talent from LA's burgeoning stable of techno producers. "

Floating Points - RA. Podcast 301

Floating Points - RA. Podcast 301
"Jazz, house, techno, disco, bass.
Floating Points is the recording alias of London-based DJ/composer/producer Sam Shepherd. If you're already familiar with his work it's likely that your access point was "Vacuum Boogie," his irresistible 2009 track that despite its languid 116 beats per minute was among that year's major cross-genre success stories. In understanding Shepherd's approach to club music, it's important to point out his background in jazz piano and composition. "
