Treibstoff co-founder René Breitbarth gets deep into the groove on this week's RA podcast.

Take a listen to René Breitbarth's productions, and you'll find that his original hometown has obviously had a great effect on his sound. Taking the hypnotic qualities of techno and adding the swing of classic house, there is a melodicism to his work that is unmistakably Cologne. Breitbarth fell in love with electronic music in the early '90s whilst clubbing at the city's Space and Warehouse venues, and it was his experiences there that convinced him to start producing his own tracks.

The next step for Breitbarth was the launch of the Treibstoff label with co-founder Marcel Janovsky, which they continue to run after more than ten years on the scene. Apart from his releases on Treibstoff—which include two full-lengths and countless singles—Breitbarth has contributed to labels such as Sub Static, Spectral Sound and Dessous, even proving himself as an advocate of the digital scene with the first release on Jay Haze's Textone netlabel. He's looking to carry this on with his digital-only label, Deep Data, which was launched just a few months ago.

As a DJ, Breitbarth indulges both the housier and more techno sides of his sound, and can often be found spinning marathon sets at Club der Visionäre in his new hometown of Berlin. His RA podcast offers a condensed insight into one of these sessions, featuring tracks from Masomenos, Cassy and Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts. We caught up with Breitbarth by e-mail to ask him about the mix, Club der Visionäre and Deep Data.
